I will no longer be posting anything here except chapter uploads for Islands of Fire and Water, and then only when I get on that story again. My 'author blog' -- ie, where I rant about writing and stuff -- has moved to http://katjevanloon.wordpress.com

I'll still be participating in writer comms on LJ and updating my word count on my profile, as well as the chapter uploads of Islands, but my rants and posts will be on wordpress.

Ciao!

Wrote 2,681 words today. Good words, even. That's 4x my daily goal for January (would be too simple to have a year-long daily goal of 450 words, you see). If I keep this up I'll finish Bellica by the 15th. Sweet.

Torturing characters again. It's what I'm good at. Happiness is for wimps.

Happy New Year! (First Post of 2009)

And, because I hate myself, I'm doing [info]getyourwordsout
this year. I'm pledging 200K words. That's just under 17K a month. Can I do it? Oh yes. I think I can.

By which I mean I MUST BE FRIGGIN INSANE.

Actually, though, when I looked over my word count goals that I'd set for this year ANYway, I realized it added up to 200K exactly. Eerie. And proof that I'm meant to do this, obviously.

Thanks to [info]dameboudicca
for letting me know about it just in time to join. ^_^

Updated my profile page and the website; now all the word count reports from 07/08 are on my site and my profile is less cluttered.

I'm trying like heck to stay up till midnight but I'm sooooo.tireeeeeeeeed.

Sigh. Only an hour and ten minutes. (And yes, I know I dated this post as Jan. 1st I'M CHEATING LEAVE ME ALONE.)

No more Pepsi late at night. Makes me weird.

This one I keep, for now, as my author blog. But my actual writing can be found at Muerta's Tears (note it is no longer at LJ).

Needed a change.

1. Sleeping all day.
2. Reading again. Currently reading The Love of a Good Woman by Alice Munro (collection of short stories) and As Francesca by Martha Baer, a BDSM-y novel I'm enjoying quite a bit.
3. Dinner at 3 am!
4. A multitude of sites.
5. Posting in my LJ instead of writing.
6. Doing the dishes.
7. Cleaning in general.
8. And now, again, sleeping.

Good night, all! (she said at 7 am)

Updated the
website. It's a lot prettier now and more simple. I like it. Thank gods for the W3C and their free stylesheets. No work involved for me. Someday when I'm a published author and raking in the dough I'll hire someone to do my sites for me, but for now this is good enough.

25,486 words done this month; 163,534 words done total.

And 87% done with the book. :D

I love how I have absolutely no control over the story now. It's fully the characters' tale to tell. I'm just typing it out for them.

My mom got two free tickets to go see Ursula K. Le Guin present at the Vancouver Writers' Festival. She's taking me. It's on Saturday.

On Saturday, I get to see one of the premiere female fantasy writers present. I get to see Ursula K. Le Guin -- one of my favorite authors -- in person.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Katje van Loon has officially said SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

And will say it again.

a much-needed update
bloodsport
[info]evlocke
Since August it has been gangbusters for me -- I wrote around 60K words on Bellica that month and moved to Nanaimo; since then I've been swamped with homework for six courses.

I am doing Nanowrimo this year, but as a rebel -- I'm going to either write 50K on Bellica or finish it -- whichever comes first.

I've updated my user profile on this journal extensively. It now includes brief synopsis-teasers for my three works in progress.

I am downsizing my online life, or trying to -- all the poetry from [info]jezebel_a  will be moved to [info]muertas_tears , along with the userpics. I will then delete [info]jezebel_a . Eventually [info]muertas_tears will be my writing journal, as the username more specifically deals with Zarkon themes, but I'm taking this one step at a time. It's a lot of work to move journals and keep everyone updated.

Or I may randomly start a new journal for my writing using my permanent pen name. I don't know. That's not till the future anyway. But I would like to get down to three journals, max -- writing, personal, and pagan.

That's it for now. I need to post back entries of poetry for your reading enjoyment. :P

I have lesbians
bloodsport
[info]evlocke
I added two characters to Bellica today: Anita and Leala. I suddenly realized that the East Campaign needed the Third Regiment too, so I needed to make up a bellica-major(a) team. Hence, Anita and Leala. Bellica and Majora and lovers.

I also learned a new word for lesbianism: tribadism. It technically refers to lesbians who simulate hetero intercourse, but I'm not making that distinction in my use of it in my novel, because words change over time, and this novel is set on a planet thousands of years after humans have colonized it. I.e., I'm a spec-fic author and can change words to fit my will, so tough shit if you have a problem with it.

Anyway. I'm happy with my character addition (especially as it added almost 800 words) and the new vocabulary. I'm also happy that I'm over 70K words with my Bellica, making it my biggest novel so far.

Not that I want The Man of Bronze to be big; it has to be under 40K to be eligible for Writers of the Future. I'm entering in the Sept 30 deadline; June 30 is way too close for me to be able to enter an actual story and not just a bunch of sentences strung together with no apparent consistency.

Islands of Fire and Water is on the back burner for now; I need to give it time to fester in my mind. Meanwhile I've got some bitching stuff planned for Bellica and The Man of Bronze, so it's an exciting time for me. I'll be a published author by this time next year. I'm sure of it.

Those of you following the story may want to go re-read Chapter 4. I realized as I was going through applying LJ-cuts that I had completely forgotten the last section of that chapter, which is why it may seem a bit of a choppy transition. There is more!

Signs I'm losing my mind. I could have sworn I'd completely updated that chapter. Ai-yi-yi-yi.

Holy Crap I started Writing AGAIN

[info]evlocke
So I haven't written since the beginning of March or so but today I sat down and started Chapter 15. And I think I'll actually be able to write in May because I've STARTED the chapter. I was completely lost as to where to go next in the story. I knew what needed to be said in the near future but also knew that something had to occur before that near future, and didn't know what. But I found it. I think. At least I got a chapter started.

I probably won't be writing for the rest of April; Travis's family is moving and I'm going back to Canada at the end of the month, etc. In May I should be semi-settled and jobless in Powell River, though, so I'll be really ready to sit down and write. AND I'll have NO WoW for a month, because my computer isn't coming up until later on. My laptop is though. And like my laptop can run much more than word processing and interwebs. Music will be on my Zune.

And you may notice my journal is no longer friendslocked. Yeah, well. I want people to READ this thing and KNOW THE NAME OF ev locke! Besides, all my chapters and articles, etc, are still locked to that special group (HI, Dave, welcome to the Readers Group!).

Oh boy. BF is snoring again. Makes me want to mimic that Cheetos commercial.

And I've had 3 Dr. Peppers, a soda which I hate, because there's nothing else to drink in this house what with the sewage contaminating our tap water and all.

Over and out,
ev

March Como Status Report #1
Katje
[info]evlocke
Well, I didn't make February at all (I'm still kind of surprised the month is over already).

I set a goal for March of 50k, but realized yesterday that that goal was completely ridiculous and I need to learn how to NOT bite off more than I can chew. So I've changed my goal to the much more doable 15k, and if I manage that I'll up it next month. If I don't make it it will remain at 15k until I do make that goal, because it's a really easy goal to make and I know I can do it if I stop being such a fucking pussy.

I've finished two chapters, which will be uploaded tonight or tomorrow, Readers Group. Stay tuned.

Word count for this month is at 3078.

Words written: 1,102 / 28,000 for the month

Well, it's a leap year. I have that extra day to catch up. LOL.

I got to talk to my mom tonight in Yahoo Chat. That was good. I have no long distance here, so it's hard for us to talk. Y!M is awesomesauce.

And now I must go update Chapter 12 on here (finished it tonight) so my Reader's Group (ie, Ynez, though if you want in please let me know) can read it. :)

Consumption: rum-tea-milk mix. And some chocolate.
